This is the page you have all been looking for. Anyone can get an A in this course, but it may take a bit of work. You must be willing to do this.

Welcome to the study of microbiology. I hope your course here will be an enjoyable experience. I have been teaching microbiology at the Charlotte Campus since 1993 and first taught at Edison in 1986. Although I use computers in teaching, we still meet in the traditional manner. Class time is about equally divided between lecture and laboratory. However you do not receive separate grades for these two parts as you may in some other courses. As you complete various tasks you will earn points. It is possible to get 1000 points...600 for lecture and 400 for lab. This can be further broken down into...4 lecture tests of 100 points each...20 lecture quizzes of 10 points each...lab reports handed in twice for 100 points each...and 2 lab exams of 100 points each. You need 900-1000 points for an A...800-899 for a B...700-799 for a C...600-699 for a D...0-599 for an F.***Quizzes***You will receive a quiz following each lecture except that in a few cases a quiz may cover 2 lectures...the first quiz may be seen below on this page...you should copy this quiz either by printing it or copying it by hand...it may be replaced by another quiz on this page so don't expect to find it here always...most quizzes will have a few extra questions which you can miss and still get 10 points...quizzes must be completed when you arrive for class...if you miss a class you cannot make it up...however you can drop that quiz as your lowest...if you are tardy to class and the quiz has already been collected you cannot make it up***Tests***There will be four tests of 100 points given...most of the questions will be taken from quizzes but they may be reworded...if you miss a test you will be allowed to make it up...however for a makeup you lose 10 points for each class period that it is late...the reason for your absence makes no difference and no excuse is required***Lab Reports***After each lab you should complete a lab report covering that lab...you may use either the lab reports from your lab book or make copies of them...these lab reports are kept in a folder and handed in twice during the sememster on the dates marked on the calendar...you must personally do the lab work to get credit for lab reports...if absent you must make up the lab work to get credit...if lab reports are handed in late you lose 10 points for each class period that they are late even if you were absent on the day they were to be handed in***Lab Tests***two of these are given of 100 points each...they mainly test your lab skills...you will be given more information as the time to take them approaches...if absent you may make them up but with a loss of 10 points for each class period they are late***Attendance***will be taken...try not to be absent or tardy...all absences are excused regardless of the reason...however you are responsible for making up whatever you missed...it is your grade that will suffer...my job is to teach you not fail you...but some effort is required on your part***Remember this page will change so check on it periodically...thanks***How to copy the quiz and print it...(1) go to the quiz page and find the quiz (2) click where it says to click for large copy (3) print the page if you have a printer or write out the questions by hand (4) if you want to save the quiz go to file and click on save***students who wish to have a grade report please request it by email***
